First Post!!

My first post of my new blog! So excited! I have always wanted to start a blog, but I didn't think it would be this easy. This was easier to get started than Tumblr was.

A brief introduction. I am a black American girl whose ultimate dream is becoming an animator. More specifically, a Creative Director for my own television show. This blog will mainly be about my journey to becoming an animator, as well as my thoughts on various topics. While my main goal is to become an animator, I also want to create a webcomic( a profitable one) and dabble in illustration. I want to start up my webcomic this year, probably in the summer or this fall. It is something I feel that I will enjoy doing, and hopefully make some little money on the side. Yeah, I know most webcomics don't make any money, but I hope to make a little business out of it anyways. I think it will be fun! Being an animator means I have to move to where the jobs are, and Alabama, where I currently live, just wont cut it. My family isn't exactly made out of money so I hope to save up as an illustrator and move to California, New York, or anywhere else where the animation job is.

But I feel as though I have a long way to go. I'm still in college, community college at that. I'm at the point of my life where I have to make the difficult decision to go to an expensive art college and rack up loans or skip out of art school and try to improve my art taking classes from different sources to improve myself. I'm leaning more towards the self taught option since, to be honest, I'm feeling very cynical towards the overly expensive art schools. I do not believe that an art education should cost 20,000, 30,000 or more a year, especially when most art professions don't even require a degree in the first place. Not to mention I do not think it is worth starting out as an artist with such a high amount of debt no matter how good the education is. When most artist start off making 20,000 dollars a year or slightly more, it would be very problematic to save up when you barely have enough money after taxes and the percentage taken to pay off your debt. I read up on the nightmares alumni have to deal with with having that debt above their heads all the time and I do not want to be apart of it. Not to mention I also read up on art colleges, even the great ones, have many sub par classes mix with great ones, and if I'm planning to pay $39,000( I'm looking at you CalArts) for an art education, every single one better be worth it! Honestly, I'm going to be ranting about the cost of art schools a lot so those reading, you will see this rant again. I'm taking animation at my community college at a very low cost( very lucky that a community college has animation!). Its going to get toonboom next semester, and I have a teacher who is very supportive of me and allows me to come to her Drawing 1 class even though I'm not registered for the class(jack pot!). Even though we mostly focus on practicing animation techniques, I plan to take extra time and create a 2 minute-4 minute animation reel to get my foot in the door of animation. You don't need a degree to become an animator, just a good portfolio and animation reel, so I'm working to create a great one where no recruiter will deny it. Fingers Cross!

So to cover, I will post drawings( I still have a lot to learn), my opinions, my progression to wecomicdom and creating an animation reel, my(hopefully) journey to becoming an illustrator, and my very long term journey to becoming an animator. Looking at the list now, I have SO much to do.

Got to get started!
