Update

Been a while since I posted! Good time to post since I have made many changes since then. One such change is the webcomic. I promised myself to try to start it in the summer, but I have realized since than that it would not be very realistic to do so. In fact, a lot of my expectations weren't very realistic. I had to think hard about my goals in life ad the time frame I had in mind to get those things completed, and I have since realized that it would be nearly impossible to do. I just started back at school and most of my art classes were closed due to low enrollment. I'm taking business, human growth development, and a photography class, and other than the business class, that was not what I saw myself doing this semester. My classes are pretty spread apart so now I'm dedicating myself to create an animation short in my spare time. My art teacher is very supportive of me to do it even though I have no classes with her(lucky for me!).

The webcomic will not be done this year and will have to be pushed back. Too busy this semester to do it. I've expanded my time frame from a year and a half to reach my goals, to three to four years. This way, it gets me more time to work on my art, get my BFA, grow a bigger presence online, and save up money to finally move out. Also, I don't feel as much of a pressure to get better at my art.

I have two more pictures to post. Both pictures suffered during the inking process. I have yet to gain the skill of an inker, so the pictures look worst than when it was drawn.

Ever got to the point of your life where you are just restless? That is how I'm feeling right now. Its like I need a change of scenery or something. I'm 21 and living with my parents while I go to college. I like living here, but I feel as though I should move on. Get a job, find a place, and support myself. I wont do that till I graduate from college though. I'm definitely planning for it though. My brother, who left home to go to college and comes back to visit every now and again, says he feel this same, restless feeling when he stays here for a time. I really need to get out of the house more. I was unable to find a job this summer and I honestly can't wait to get back to school. I'm counting the days!

This restless stage is effecting my art too. I haven't been able to work on my webcomic much at all. I thought I would be farther along the way by now, but nope! I hope I will get it up and running in August, maybe. Hopefully I will beat this art block by then.):

Haven't updated in a while! I have great news though. I'm now finally drawing down the designs of my characters from my upcoming webcomic. The designs are constantly changing though. It is going to be a newspaper-style comic and I want to make the designs as simple as possible so that I can draw them in a matter of minutes. The style is going to be more cartoony and exaggerated. After I finish getting the designs down, than I will do general layouts of their environment( which wont be too complex) than I will finally script it out. It is going to be a gag-a-day script with mini stories every now and then. It probably wont get started/posted until mid July though, and until then, I wont give out anything about it.(:

Can't wait!!

Practice drawings!

Just a random girl.

Mad Scientist

The pictures I will be posting wont be in color. I hope to color them later once I found my color pencils.

A women who came up in my head who I just had to draw. I see her as a fun loving scientist who just loves to joke around.

I see her talking with a bunch of kids. They ask her what is her job, she responds by crunching up her fingers, crossing her eyes, and responding " I'm a MAD scientist!"

Just another pic of her fun loving nature.

These pics do look horrible because I'm a beginner when it comes to copying images. Any advice would be great!

Mother's Day Present

Drew my mother a picture this past Mother's Day. My mother had five children, and the kittens represent each of us. I'm the one with the glasses, being the only one with glasses in my family. My tough sister is to the right of me to me, my tall and thin brother is to the left of me. My little sister, who is a bit obsessed with the internet, is on the ground, while my slightly beefy brother is to the left of her.

First Post!!

My first post of my new blog! So excited! I have always wanted to start a blog, but I didn't think it would be this easy. This was easier to get started than Tumblr was.

A brief introduction. I am a black American girl whose ultimate dream is becoming an animator. More specifically, a Creative Director for my own television show. This blog will mainly be about my journey to becoming an animator, as well as my thoughts on various topics. While my main goal is to become an animator, I also want to create a webcomic( a profitable one) and dabble in illustration. I want to start up my webcomic this year, probably in the summer or this fall. It is something I feel that I will enjoy doing, and hopefully make some little money on the side. Yeah, I know most webcomics don't make any money, but I hope to make a little business out of it anyways. I think it will be fun! Being an animator means I have to move to where the jobs are, and Alabama, where I currently live, just wont cut it. My family isn't exactly made out of money so I hope to save up as an illustrator and move to California, New York, or anywhere else where the animation job is.

But I feel as though I have a long way to go. I'm still in college, community college at that. I'm at the point of my life where I have to make the difficult decision to go to an expensive art college and rack up loans or skip out of art school and try to improve my art taking classes from different sources to improve myself. I'm leaning more towards the self taught option since, to be honest, I'm feeling very cynical towards the overly expensive art schools. I do not believe that an art education should cost 20,000, 30,000 or more a year, especially when most art professions don't even require a degree in the first place. Not to mention I do not think it is worth starting out as an artist with such a high amount of debt no matter how good the education is. When most artist start off making 20,000 dollars a year or slightly more, it would be very problematic to save up when you barely have enough money after taxes and the percentage taken to pay off your debt. I read up on the nightmares alumni have to deal with with having that debt above their heads all the time and I do not want to be apart of it. Not to mention I also read up on art colleges, even the great ones, have many sub par classes mix with great ones, and if I'm planning to pay $39,000( I'm looking at you CalArts) for an art education, every single one better be worth it! Honestly, I'm going to be ranting about the cost of art schools a lot so those reading, you will see this rant again. I'm taking animation at my community college at a very low cost( very lucky that a community college has animation!). Its going to get toonboom next semester, and I have a teacher who is very supportive of me and allows me to come to her Drawing 1 class even though I'm not registered for the class(jack pot!). Even though we mostly focus on practicing animation techniques, I plan to take extra time and create a 2 minute-4 minute animation reel to get my foot in the door of animation. You don't need a degree to become an animator, just a good portfolio and animation reel, so I'm working to create a great one where no recruiter will deny it. Fingers Cross!

So to cover, I will post drawings( I still have a lot to learn), my opinions, my progression to wecomicdom and creating an animation reel, my(hopefully) journey to becoming an illustrator, and my very long term journey to becoming an animator. Looking at the list now, I have SO much to do.

Got to get started!
